Lower Back Pain
Low Back Pain

Chiropractic treatment for low back pain focuses on finding the source of the problem and correcting it, rather than treating the symptom; this allows the body to naturally heal. When vertebrae positioning is corrected and normal motion is restored, low back pain is often significantly alleviated.
A chiropractor uses spinal manipulations or adjustments to help the vertebrae that are out of alignment to return to their normal position, function, and range of motion. Depending on how the misaligned joint is treated, the doctor may either apply a quick thrust or use specialized tools.
Disc problems, the fibrous cushion between the vertebrae, can be a cause of low back pain, since bulging or ruptured discs can irritate spinal cord nerves, resulting in leg pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the legs. Poor physical condition, jobs that require lifting, standing or bending for long periods, and jobs involving heavy lifting all lead to low back problems. Inactivity or emotional stress may exacerbate symptoms or trigger the return of the problem.
As well as chiropractic adjustments, your chiropractor may recommend exercises, hot or cold compresses, or massage to complement your care. Making changes to your lifestyle, such as eating healthily and trying to reduce stress, may also be helpful.
In the first month following the onset of back pain, treatment is important. Do not wait until the pain is unbearable or immobilizing, because this may result in increased time, stress, and cost down the road. At District Wellness Chiropractic, we can help get you back to living pain-free so there is no reason to suffer from prolonged pain!
